Dear Developer, this summer is an exciting time for Palm and our developer community as we prepare to join HP. Palm devices are gaining traction in the market, our App Catalog is steadily filling with great apps, and HP has made no secret of its plans to “double down” on webOS. So we’re gearing up for big things ahead.
We’d love to have you join in the excitement. Since you recently expressed interest in webOS development at a Palm event, or you asked to learn more about the new webOS Plug-in Development Kit (PDK), we wanted to share some big news with you:
- We just announced the PDK Hot Apps Program, which will pay out $1 Million in cash and HP products to the PDK apps that enjoy the most success in the Palm App Catalog during the months of July and August.
- The PDK is on the verge of exiting beta and becoming a part of the core webOS SDK. The combined SDK/PDK is available now via the SDK Early Access Program, so you can start using it right away.
- As soon as this version is released to the public, the doors will be wide open for all developers to distribute PDK-based apps in the App Catalog.
The PDK Hot Apps Program is especially good news for iPhone game developers who have apps written in C/C++. These apps can often be ported to webOS in a matter of days, thanks to the PDK’s support for OpenGL ES and SDL.
The ease of porting your game to webOS, plus the wide open playing field of the Palm App Catalog, equals awesome ROI. But don’t just take our word for it–check out some of the success stories our early PDK partners and other webOS developers have enjoyed.
If you’re not an iPhone game developer, the process of porting your app may take a bit longer, but your opportunity to win big in the webOS App Catalog is the same.
Ready to learn more and take a crack at your share of $1 Million? Email us at [escapeemail email=””], and we’ll get you into the SDK Early Access Program and respond to any questions.
We look forward to hearing from you!
